A 40-Year Class Reunion Lead to the Creation of a Nonprofit Alumni Organization called “Capac Classmates Promoting Future Adults” and a Career Scholarship.
In the small village of Capac, a group of former classmates and members of the community are changing the way people think of supporting students. What began as a desire to make an impact while enjoying a simple golf outing has blossomed into a 501(c)(3) organization that provides a very unique scholarship.
The Annual Weapons of Grass Destruction Charity Golf Scramble held each year in June is the main fundraiser that makes this scholarship possible. The golf scramble has happened every year since 2022; after the Capac Class of 1981 got the idea following a class reunion to start something bigger than just a friendly game of golf. Each year people from miles around come to this event including several who travel from out of state to participate. There are the usual fundraising activities like a 50/50 drawing, contests for closest to the pin and the longest drive, but more than that is the sense of community this event inspires.
Now former classmates from as far back as 1960 to 2024 join the rest of the community to partner to support the future of the community. The organization is growing and with hard work and passion hope to hold other fundraisers and to support the community in other activities as it grows.
